Hair Mask at Home

Today we will be making a hair mask at home with a fraction of a price from the store-bought mask. So easy to make that will make you wonder why to buy a hair mask from out when you can make it at home.

Hair is a big part of our looks and health. Hair is the first thing we notice in a person and it defines our personality.

Having good hair day is what we as a girl always want to boost her self esteem, but it is seldom so especially on our special days.

First let us see What is Hair? Then we will talk about how to make a hair mask at home.

What is Hair ?

Hair is a protein called Keratin which is found in hair follicles that are on the top layer of the skin called dermis.

It is said that our scalp has more than 1 Lac hair follicles and over 5 million all over our body.

Hair is made from dead cells that we pushed out of the body just like our nails.  Hair originated from a bulb-shaped structure inside our skin.  When these follicles are nourished they perform a complicated process of keratinization which gives rise to our hair as we know it.

When this follicle does not receive proper nourishment that leads to dull hair full of breakage and split ends.

The first step to a good hair care lies within us.

The food we eat plays a major role in deciding how healthy our hair will be, be it any type of hair.

If you wish to know your hair type please check out my blog post on types of hair it will give you in dept knowledge about hair and its types and the science behind it.

Hair and Hair Types

So coming back to giving nourishment.

As much as eating good food is important it is also important to nourish the hair tropically.

Today we will be discussing just that.

Hair Mask at Home

For centuries in India our grand mothers have given us home remedies to help nourish and maintain the health of our hair thanks to Ayurveda.

We will be discussing basic Ayurvedic ingredients to make a hair mask at home with fraction of a price from the store brought hair mask and we do not need to spend thousands in parlour too.

Ingredients for Hair Mask at Home.

First ingredient that we will be using is Dahi / Yogurt / Curd.

Dahi / Curd / Yogurt

Dahi  or yogurt is used in India since ancient times. Be it as a facemask or hair mask. I wish it was considered as super food as there are so many benefits to it when you eat it or apply it tropically.

It is excellent choice for a low budget moisturizer.

Curd is a rich source of fatty acids, vitamins and mineral which is good for the health or your hair and gut. The probiotics in the curd help keep good bacteria in your stomach and intestine in its optimum health.

Ayurveda recommends to have curd atleast once a day usually afternoon is preferred. In some states of India like Gujarat, Andra Pradesh and Telegana curd is had with every meal.

Constituents of Curd

Curd is rich source of

  • Fatty acids
  • Vitamins B5 and D

The next ingredient that we will be using is Fenugreek Seeds or Methi seeds

Fenugreek seeds / Methi Seeds

Fenugreek or Methi is such a beautiful ingredient that used in Indian Kitchen to flavor food. It is my favorite flavoring ingredient that enhances the taste of the food. In Ayurveda it is used as a medicine to take care of diabetes and sugar issues, digestive issues, soothe irritated skin and scalp etc

Fenugreek is also used as natural remedy for hair issues like thinning, dullness, itchy scalp and dandruff.
