Watch Me Make this recipe
It is one of my favorite recipe as we are going to use my famous Ayurvedic Herbal Hair Oil.
It is a hair oil made with almost 40 powerful ingredients which will make your hair amazing. So I though how about using this hair oil to make a conditioner bar which will make your hair super silky and strong.
This hair oil has ingredients like Bhrami, Amla, Shankapuspi, Methi, Onion seeds and many such beautiful ingredients that are super good for hair.
If you wish to read more about how to make this hair oil I would highly recommend reading a related blogpost which discuss how to make ayurvedic herbal hair oil in detail.
You can use this recipe to make your own and feel free to use it and make it your own.
If you don’t get all the ingredients don’t worry just collect whatever you get and make this hair oil. Trust me its amazing!
So coming back to the conditioner bar.
The bulk of this recipe is made from BTMS 50 and ayurvedic herbal hair oil.
To read more about BTMS 50 check this out.
Along with BTMS 50 we have added cetyl alcohol which gives it a nice bulk to the conditioner bar.
We also have shea butter in this recipe which is super cool for your hair. Shea butter is a nice moisturizer for your hair and helps it add nice shine to the hair. I love using shea butter in skincare and haircare products. There are so many benefits of using shea butter that it can be a separate blogpost in itself.
Our next ingredient is dimethicone which is a silicone which makes your hair silky. If you wish you can skip this ingredient as there are mixed reviews regarding the same.
There are natural alternatives to dimethicone which I have mentioned in substitutions. Its all on you if you wish too.
D Panthenol helps in reduce static in the hair and makes it soft and bouncy. Usually you get two kinds of panthenol D panthenol and DL panthenol. I like to use D panthenol.
If you wish to read more about Panthenols on a whole I would recommend to read my compendium where I have mentioned about all the ingredients in details its INCI name, how it is made, what does it do etc etc basically all your FAQ will be answered there.
In this recipe I have used preservative as I think that this conditioner bar will be exposed to water for longer than you know. It is also gonna stay in your shower for longer so If you ask me I would put this ingredient right there.
I have a blogpost dedicated to know more about preservative. You should read it.
So now enough about the ingredients lets just jump to recipe.
At first I am going to mention recipe in percentage and then in grams so feel free to use any method and make it your own.

Equipments needed for this project
Pyrex or Borosilicate glass container
Microwave or a double boiler ( whichever you are comfortable )
Molds as you wish
Clean and sanitize your working area and all the above equipment with 70% alcohol or bleach, before making any skincare and hair care product. GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) is utmost important to make an effective product.
Measure all the ingredients and keep it aside.
Add BTMS 50, Cetyl Alcohol, Ayurvedic Herbal Hair Oil and Shea Butter in heat proof container like a borosilicate glass beaker or pyrex beaker.
Heat them on low heat on a double boiler or give it 30 seconds burst in microwave till all the BTMS 50 and Cetyl alcohol is melted.
Make sure you do not boil or burn the ingredients
Once melted take it out and allow it to cool.
Once the temperature reaches 40 degrees Celsius we can add our cool down ingredients. Since these ingredients are heat sensitive make sure you do not add it before the temperature is brought down.
Ideally I would check pH after this step since there are some preservative which will reduce the pH of a product in case it the pH goes below 4.5 I would like to add some NaOH 50% solution drop by drop till I reach a required pH. Please make sure you note this down the first time you conduct the trials so next time you can add it directly to the recipe while making it. I hope I am clear about this. If not please write it in comments section I would be happy to answer.
Now put it in a mold. You can put it directly in fridge to cool it down for couple of hours.
I like to leave mine for overnight at room temperature.
Next day they are ready to unmold.
Now Unmold and package it in beautiful packaging.
Since there is no water added to this recipe there is no drying time but still I like to keep mine on shelf for at least 24 hours before packaging.
You can substitute BTMS 50 with BTMC.
Cetyl Alcohol can be substituted with cetearly alcohol as basically they both do the same thing.
You cannot substitute Ayurvedic Herbal Hair Oil with anything as it might just defeat the purpose of making this conditioner bar. It is super ingredient and an extra step can make a world of a different to the present product.
Instead of shea butter you can add mango butter or cocoa butter both work great for this recipe. I personally like cocoa butter in hair care product as it is super for hair.
Dimethicone can be substituted with natural silicone like broccoli seed oil. It makes the hair nice and bouncy and shiny. It is a naturally alternative so might be it will not have a build up.
Vit E a good anti oxidant so I would suggest not to substitute it with anything. It is not a mandatory ingredient but still I like to add it.
Glycerin is a humectant which is super cheap and effective in skincare and hair care products so I don’t think I will ever ask you to substitute it.
D Panthenol is another functional ingredient that I love. It is super moisturizing agent and add it makes the product nice and effective.
In this product I am using Rose Fragrance Oil you can substitute it with whichever fragrance oil you like and make a theme out of it.
For preservative you can use any broad-spectrum preservative which is available to you. I am using Iscaguard PEG but feel free to use any preservative you have available to you.
I hope I have covered all the ingredients in this recipe but still if you have any questions please feel free to write in comments section and I would be happy to answer.
